Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q. What should I bring when I come to school?
  • A. We suggest you are very careful in what you bring, it being easy to bring a lot more than you need. The more you have, the harder it is to keep up with maintenance. Bring all the personal items you need: towels, toiletry, clothes, bedding (we do provide a mattress cover), etc. A small assortment of videos, games and other fun things are nice. We suggest you wait until you arrive or call roommates ahead of time so you know what they will bring in the line of kitchen items. Roommates are generally good to share in the kitchen and it is easy to get so much it's hard to manage. D.I. has a large assortment of dishes, utensils, pans, etc. We also have Wal-Mart, K-Mart and Walgreen's to pick up what you still need.
  • Q. Do you conduct clean checks, and if so, how often?
  • A. We have a clean check every week and a "white glove" check at the end of each semester. We value the use of these checks to help you keep an organized, sanitary home. This helps tremendously in the Spirit in your home and in your ability to concentrate on doing your best in your scholastic, physical, and social lives! You will be healthier, more positive, and just plain enjoy life much more! Keep your apartment surroundings simple and you will have plenty of time to keep them clean and tidy.

  • Q. Who does the maintenance and how well is it kept up?
  • A. Merrell and Virginia Pratt are the owners/general managers of Normandy and attend to most of the maintenance. The maintenance board in the lounge is checked almost daily unless we are out of town. We try very hard to keep everything in good working order and fulfill your requests. All students have access to our telephone number for any emergencies (or help of any kind). You may also e-mail at any time.

  • Q. How long does it take to get to campus from Normandy Apts.?
  • A. Normandy is directly across the street from the Hart P.E. Building and the west tennis courts.

  • Q. Is there plenty of parking at Normandy for my vehicle? Should I bring a vehicle?
  • A. We have had enough parking every semester for all of our tenants who have had vehicles. Parking requires a permit and costs $25 per contract. We do strongly encourage students who can get by without a car not to bring one. Parking around campus gets hard to find and traffic around campus and even in Rexburg is getting more congested every year. Just about everything you need is within walking distance of Normandy unless you have a job that is too far away. Broulims, north of Normandy about 3 blocks, even delivers groceries for a small fee. Most of the young ladies with cars are willing to occasionally drive someone when a need arises. Be willing to kick in some gas money!

  • Q. What ward do I attend at Normandy?
  • A. The wards change from time to time, but at the present, Normandy belongs to the BYU-I 2nd ward. All wards meet on campus. The young men in the ward are currently from Viking Village.

  • Q. Do you have an exercise room?
  • A. No, but the Hart P.E. building, which is just across the street, has everything you could possibly need to keep in great shape.

  • Q. Can we bring a band with us and practice at Normandy?
  • A. Please do not bring a band to Normandy. There just isn't enough space for big instruments. You are welcome to bring a smaller keyboard, violin, or other instrument and practice as long as it is reasonable and not bothersome to any of your neighbors.

  • Q. Does Normandy's bedroom and closet sizes meet the BYU-I requirements?
  • A. Not the current guidelines, but we have approval of BYU-I with a "grandfather clause", meaning we met the previous requirements. The three girl bedrooms are a bit short of floor and closet space, but they work great if you limit the amount of clothes you bring and you keep things neat and tidy. With only three girls in most of the apartments, the living rooms and kitchens more than make up the difference in size.
